Bridge to Haiti Trip: November 7 - 18, 2011

25 people participated in our Bridge to Haiti trip in November 2011. We again partnered with Mission to Haiti Canada (MTHC) and focused primarily on construction and running a medical clinic.

Projects:

Construction: Along side of the Haitian community, we constructed a $50,000 playground donated to MTHC at the ministry campus of the Presbyterian Church with whom they partner in Cabaret, Haiti. As well, we built roof trusses for homes for families displaced by flooding and earthquakes.

Medical Clinic: We supported MTHC in running their first medical clinic in Cap Haitien. This area in the northern part of Haiti is where many people fled following the earthquake in January 2011. With insufficient resources and infrastructure, this area has been particularly hard hit with starvation and disease. The medical team provided care for more than a thousand people while there.

Relationship Building: In all things, we want to be building relationships with the local community and leading them closer to Christ. In addition to working side by side with Haitians on a daily basis, we took walks together into the community to meet people, caring for children in the orphanage on site, caring for kids in the community and at the school on site, and meeting the children and families of kids sponsored by MTHC. We hope to maintain these relationships long term as the bridge makes future trips to this community.
