The Centre for Dreams is a place in the Markham community where adults with developmental disabilities can come to build relationships and enhance their lives through education in life skills, academics and vocational training. Members of the Centre also have the opportunity to put these skills to work in practical ways for their own personal growth and for the benefit of their community, families, and friends. The Centre for Dreams enhances the lives of its members by helping them become more independent, more confident, and better equipped to achieve their goals. They also help the community of Markham recognize the value and dignity of adults with developmental disabilities and develop a greater respect for their contribution to our community.
Our relationship with the Centre for Dreams has continued to grow over the last several years and the bridge sees this as one of our most rewarding partnerships. In addition to financially supporting the Centre’s programs, we held an incredible charity fundraiser in December 2010 thanks in part to the generosity of many local celebrities who participated in a dramatic reading of A Christmas Carol and the work of gifted volunteers from the bridge. We raised $9,320 to support the building of the Centre’s new facility. As well, we have had life groups partner with the Centre to do volunteer work on site and our Young Adults’ ministry has been connecting with them in more significant ways to build relationships with the members and volunteers there.
