Say the word “mission” and the picture evoked in most people’s minds is of someone living in some remote village fighting hunger and disease and telling the native population about Jesus. While God calls some people to be missionaries in that context, they are in the minority. At the bridge, when someone says the word “missionary” we want the first picture to come to mind to be your own reflection in the mirror. We believe that when Jesus said, “Love your neighbour,” and “Go into the world and make disciples of all nations,” He intentionally didn’t start with the phrase, “Some of you, if you have the time…”
As a community and as individuals, God has created and called us to be His representatives in the world. We are ordinary people, empowered by God, making a difference wherever we are. We believe that by making ourselves available to God, utilizing our gifts, and pursuing our passions, God will use us to transform lives and change the world. At the bridge, mission is not solely the responsibility of pastors, a committee, or vocational missionaries financially supported by the church. Mission flows through community and relationships and involves everyone from the youngest child to the most distinguished elder. We believe that Christian community without mission is neither truly Christian nor truly community.
the bridge is a community of life groups—individuals committed to doing life with one another and together growing in their love for God, each other, and their neighbours (locally and globally). To be part of a life group at the bridge is to be part of a community onMission. God also leads our community as a whole to multiple projects every year where He calls us to work together on a larger scale to make a difference locally and throughout the world.
What is the onMission team?
The onMission team is a team of volunteers whose responsibility it is to educate, raise awareness, and resource toward the mission that Jesus calls us, always with the intent of mobilization and participation.
